Welcome This resource CD was developed for use by Key leaders across Pennsylvania to work with teachers and school districts to implement the vision of an inquiry centered science program. The CD contains numerous resources and links that will be helpful in addressing the entire science program. It also contains PowerPoint presentations that are available for use in additional professional development settings across the Commonwealth. We encourage individuals who use the presentations to participate in an official Pennsylvania Building a Presence session to familiarize themselves with the presentations and resources available. To date, Pennsylvania Building a Presence has an electronic network reaching nearly all the schools in Pennsylvania. This network is used to share information, professional development opportunities, and is also used to connect teachers throughout the State. The BaP network is easy to join, and information on how to join is included on the CD. Pennsylvania Building a Presence has developed numerous presentations to help districts implement inquiry centered science programs, in addition to helping districts move towards the implementation of the State Science Assessment, which is scheduled to be in place by 2007-2008. Data is showing that districts implementing inquiry centered science programs increase student achievement in mathematics, reading, and science. Inquiry centered science programs, when implemented with careful planning, make connections throughout the curriculum. This CD is the beginning of making resources available to classroom teachers and districts. In addition to this resource, Pennsylvania Building a Presence provides expertise in:
We utilize individuals from across the State who have expertise in these areas to meet the needs of districts and Intermediate Units. Pennsylvania Building a Presence for Science was made possible through grants and support from:
This CD was made possible by Research for Better Schools (RBS) and collaborating with science educators across Pennsylvania. Without the support of RBS, this CD would not be possible, nor would the professional development sessions be offered to Intermediate Units, districts, and teachers. Information and resources can be accessed through the use of a browser, hot links to other organizations, or by accessing it directly by files on the CD. We have done our best to ensure the information is accurate and the links are up to date. If you have problems or questions, please feel free to contact us.
