Elizabethtown 6, Neumann 5 (8 innings)
March 8, 2002
Etown jumped on the Knights of Neumann in the final contest of
their eight game trek in Florida but needed a run in the bottom
half of the eighth to take the win.
In the first, a Steve Luongo double plated Chris Turtell who had
doubled giving Etown an early 1-0 lead. Brad Duppstadt drove Luongo
in to take a 2-0 lead into the second. In the second, Turtell again
doubled and was drivin in by Kevin Bonner who singled. A Luongo
fielder's choice later in the inning scored Bonner for a 4-0 lead.
Meanwhile, freshman Drew Kelley was mowing down the Knights on
the hill. In his five innings, Kelley struck out three and held
Neumann scoreless. The Blue Jay bullpen couldn't protect the lead
though, as Neumann scored four in the sixth to tie the score.
Etown followed with a run of their own in the sixth, but the Knights
answered, scoring on a sacrifice fly in the seventh, to tie the
game up again.
With the score tied at five in the eighth, Turtell walked and stole
second. Bonner drove him in with a single up the middle for a 6-5
win, improving Etown to 2-8 on the season.
