What is a Peer Mentor? Elizabethtown College’s peer mentor program is comprised of nearly 80 upper class students who have been extensively trained to help new students with the transition from high school to college life. Two peer mentors are assigned to work with each first-year seminar class and at least two peer mentors are assigned to work with transfer students who are not required to take a first-year seminar course. Peer mentors are actively involved in the summer, fall, and spring orientation programs and are often the first person a troubled or anxious student will approach for help. Throughout the first six weeks of the fall semester, peer mentors work closely with their group’s first-year faculty advisor serving as the connection between academic and college life at E-town. The peer mentors are remarkable student leaders who wear many hats serving as advisors, peer counselors, and a resource for new students.
