A New Opera

Teresa Bomberger (Maria) has sung featured roles with the Maryland Lyric Opera, Hawaii Opera Theatre, and numerous other theatres.  Local audiences may remember her as Evangeline Harcourt in Dutch Apple’s Anything Goes.  An avid recitalist, Ms. Bomberger was the winner of the Montpelier Recital Competition as well as Hawaii Public Radio’s Lotte Lehmann Recital Contest. Ms. Bomberger taught class and applied voice at the University of Hawaii for 10 years and now has a private voice studio in her Landisville home.  

Jackie Coupe (Sylvie) is a sophomore Music Education major with a concentration in voice. She is playing the role of Sylvie in the opera.She has played the role of Cosette in my High School's production of Les Miserables in 2005-06 and was involved in productions of Godspell, Fiddler on the Roof and Barnum. Jackie was a member in the Pennsylvania District 12 Festival Chorus for 1 year, the All Catholic Chorus for 3 years as well as several choirs in her high school
Layne Keith Zeiner (Mario) has performed locally with Ephrata Performing Arts Center, Theatre if the Seventh Sister, York Little Theater, Millersville Theatre, and Actors Co. His favorite roles have included Sweeny in "Sweeny Todd," Willy Loman in "Death of a Salesman," Valentine in "Kiss of the Spider Woman," Billy Flynn in "Chicago," and Buddy in "Follies." He was last seen soloing with the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra at their 2007 Christmas Concert.
 
 
   
Travis Lucas (Alberto) is a freshman Music Education major with a concentration in voice. He will be playing the role of Alberto. Travis played the role of 'George' in Sunday in the Park with George his senior year in High School. He was a member of the Pennsylvania District 12 Choir. Travis was also a part of several choirs throughout his high school career.  Travis also performed at the Kimmel Center with one of his High Schools elite choirs.

Matthew P. Fritz, D.M.A. (bishop/generals/cleric) is Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA. Dr. Fritz holds the Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Florida State University and the Bachelor of Music in Education from Westminster Choir College. He has been an active clinician, adjudicator, conductor, and performer. Dr. Fritz has delivered presentations for the Hawaii International Conference on Arts and Humanities, The International Society for the Study of European Ideas, the Florida Music Educator’s Association and the American Choral Director’s Association on topics ranging from historical interest to technology utilization. In addition, Dr. Fritz is a member of the American Choral Director’s Association, the Pennsylvania Music Educator’s Association, and the Music Educator’s National Conference.

Matt Mangus (Wilmer) has sung in productions including, "Honk: The Musical," "Footloose" and "Hair." Matt played the role of Fakir in "The Secret Garden" and Tony in "The Boyfriend." He has participated in numerous choral festivals and choirs along with several a cappella choirs including Phalanx at Elizabethtown College and The Troubadours from Manheim Township High School. Matt is a voice major at Elizabethtown College and wishes to perform professionally.

Magda Y. Silva (Elisa) is a native of El Paso, Texas.  She is currently working on her Doctorate in Music and Arts from Arizona State University in Tempe where she also received her Masters of Music.  She earned Bachelors of Music from the University of Arizona in Tucson.   

Ms. Silva has appeared as a guest artist in numerous musical performances.  Some of these include: the Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte with the Lyric Opera Theater, Norma in Bellini’s Norma with St. Barnabas Choir, and the concerts Viva la Diva and One World with the Grand Canyon Men‘s Chorale.  In addition, Ms. Silva has performed as a soprano soloist with the Phoenix Oratorio Chorus in Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass and Handel’s Samson, with Arizona Women in Tune in Where I Live (A Breast Cancer Oratorio), as well as with Elizabethtown College Symphonic Band in Symphony from Ivy Green. 

Ms. Silva has been the musical director for Elizabethtown College production of Hair, Mesa Encore Theatre production of Bells are Ringing and as assistant musical director for Elizabethtown Area Music Foundation’s produciton of State Fair and as vocal coach for Somebody Catch my Homework, Jinete sin Cabeza, and Mandarin Duck for Mesa Art Center. 

Emily Sanders (chorus member) is a junior music major with a concentration in voice.  She is in the chorus of this show.  She has appeared in the pit and on-stage in several local productions; most recently, a community theater production of Cinderella.  She has also participated in numerous vocal ensembles and festivals.  Emily is a violin instructor at the Cumberland Valley School of Music in Chambersburg, Pa.
Stephanie Baumann (chorus member) is a sophomore Music Therapy major at Elizabethtown College and is from Bensalem, PA.  Steph was involved in community theater there for seven years, beginning as a poppy in the Wizard of Oz and finishing as Cinderella.  Unfortunately, she has not had much time or chance for the E-town stage, but did play the Younger Daughter in a staged version of Sharon Olds's poems, "The Gold Cell," in the Fall 2006 One Acts.  Steph is extremely excited for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to sing in an opera, and is grateful to be involved in the first production of Las Madres de la Plaza.

Michael Tschop (Miguel) is a sophomore Music Therapy major and Psychology minor at Elizabethtown College.  On campus, he is a member of concert choir and Camerata.  He has played Horton in Seussical the Musical, Ewart in The Music Man, and Charlie Davenport in Annie Get Your Gun.

Alison Mekeel (Helga) is adjunct instructor of Voice at Elizabethtown College, and holds degrees in voice performance from Oberlin Conservatory and New England Conservatory. Alison is a frequent soloist in recital and oratorio in the Lancaster area. Favorite operatic roles include Susanna in The Marriage of Figaro and Lauretta  in Gianni Schicci.
Phyllis Drackley (Elena) is a member of the voice faculty of Elizabethtown College.  Roles performed are:  Sr. Angelica, Suor Angelica; Countess, Marriage of Figaro; Alice Ford, Falstaff; Mother in Amahl and the Night Visitors; First Lady, Die Zauberflöte; and Sandmänchen, Hansel und Gretel; and Raynee, world premiere of Henri Atoll.  She also performs as soloist in recital, oratorio and concert and is a voice consultant for various organizations. 
Megan Thaler (chorus member) is a sophomore music major with a concentration in trumpet. This is her first time singing in a production. She hopes to continue her interest in singing throughout her career. Megan is currently a member of the concert choir.
