Citing Sources APA Style


This guide  is based on the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 5th Edition.

Your entries should be double spaced within and between citations. Put them in alphabetical order by author's last name, or if no author is listed, lead off with the title. Use hanging indents.

The following are sample entries for some common types of electronic sources.

Journal, Periodical, or Newspaper article from a proprietary database such as Academic Search Premier

Author/editor. (Date). Title of article. Periodical title, volume (issue number), pages.

    Retrieved month, day, year, from name of service or internet address (URL).

Holden, C. (1999, April 23). Possible Ainu site creates buzz. Science, 284 (5414), 583.

    Retrieved August 24, 2005, from Academic Search Premier database.

Baker, P. & Glasser, S.B. (2004, August 25). Russia investigates cause of 2 plane crashes.

Web Site (Personal, Scholarly Project or Professional)

Journal articles, paginated by issue (each issue begins with page 1)

Journal articles, continuous pagination throughout a particular volume, three to six authors
