Net Library 

What is netLibrary?

 

netLibrary is a collection of electronic books (eBooks), containing a variety of research and reference materials. You can search across many eBooks, or within a particular eBook. The netLibrary collection consists of approximately 1,600 current titles which are being added to the High Library catalog and approximately 3,600 older, out of copyright, titles which are available on the NetLibrary website.

 

Accessing the eBook Collection 

  • From within the campus network, access netLibrary from the High Library webpage under E-books - electronic books or go directly to http://www.netLibrary.com
  • From outside of the campus network, click on the Database Access from Outside E-town Network link on the High Library webpage and supply your network/email ID and password.  

Creating an eBook account

If you wish to create personal bookmarks or notes within ebooks, or you would like to have exclusive access to an e-book (24 hours checkout), you will need to create an ebook account.

 

1.   While on the campus network, access http://www.netLibrary.com and click on the Create a Free Account link.

2.   Enter your identifying information (user name, password, email address).

3.   Select the Submit button.

 

Logging in

 

Each time you wish to check out an eBook or create notes/bookmarks, you must first log in.

1.   Go to www.netLibrary.com and enter your user name and password on the right side of the screen.

2.   Click the red Log In button.

3.   You now have access to all eBooks available in the Elizabethtown College High Library ebook collection.

 

Searching for an eBook  

  • The Keyword Search box is located at the top right of your browser window. You can search for a word or phrase in the title, author, Library of Congress subject headings, publisher, and ISBN fields.
  • To do a phrase search, put quotation marks around the search words – for example, “small business.”
  • The single asterisk * may be used for wildcarding, ( i.e., cook* retrieves cooks, cooks, cooking, etc.)  
  • Advanced Search allows you to combine search terms in different ways; you can also limit by date.
  • You can create a list of titles for later examination without having to repeat your search, by clicking on Add to My List.   

Checking out an eBook

 

To check out an eBook, you must first log in. Checking out an eBook gives you exclusive use of the eBook for a 24 hour period. The eBook is automatically made available for use by others when the checkout period expires.  

 

Adding Notes to a Page within an eBook

 

Once you have logged into netLibrary and opened an eBook, you can annotate any page of the eBook and save your notes for future reference.

 

1.   Select the specific page you wish to annotate.

2.   Click on the Notes tab.

3.   Name the note.

4.   Add the note. You will be limited to a total of 500 characters. . 

You can access notes you have created using the Notes tab available within an eBook, or from the Notes links on the netLibrary home page.

 

Other features – audio Dictionary

 

When reading an ebook, access the online audio Dictionary by clicking on the dictionary tab. Type in the word and click on the horn icon to hear the word pronounced correctly.
