A Message From the Department Chair:
"Our principal goal is for students to compete successfully
for professional positions at attractive salaries or to be accepted
into highly selective graduate programs. Our brand of competitiveness
is not aggressive: instead, it is self-assured. It is born of
a sense of cooperation between professors and students, and between
students themselves. In our cooperative environment, we motivate
students to develop teamwork and social skills and become increasingly
self-aware and communicative. While scientific and technical competence
is the bedrock of our students' competitiveness, they also develop
distinctive traits of caring and collaboration which are becoming
increasingly important in a world striving for meaning, harmony,
and peace."
--David Ferruzza, Chair of Physics and Engineering
Department Mission:
Programs in the Department of Physics and Engineering are designed
to convey an appreciation and understanding of physical and natural
systems and to prepare students for professional careers in science
and technical fields. Analysis, problem solving, and hands-on
experience are emphasized at all instructional levels. Students
majoring in the department commonly go on to graduate school or
to careers in physics, engineering, or education.
