Welcome to Scouting University

Hello and welcome to the Elizabethtown Students in Free Enterprise Team’s Scouting University website. I am Matthew Matyas, Scouting University Director for 2011. I am very excited to be running this year’s one-day event and I hope that you are as excited to be attending it. This year’s event will be the best yet and I hope that you find it the best when you arrive at Elizabethtown on Saturday, January 29, 2011 where your scouts can earn up to two badges as well as interact with scouts from different areas.

I have been involved with the Boy Scouts of America since June 2002. I am still active with my Troop stationed out of Northeastern Pennsylvania. I have served as the Senior Patrol Leader for by Troop for two and a half years. I am currently an Assistant Scoutmaster. In 2005, I earned my Eagle Scout Award. Now I want to give back to Scouting what Scouting has given to me. I am very excited to bring both Boy and Girl Scouts together in order for them to earn badges required for them to advance in their individual Scouting adventures. Furthermore, I am very happy to plan a day where young boys and girls can learn everything from outdoor skills to American history to household responsibilities to their roles in local communities.

This year Katie Evans, a junior majoring in Elementary and Special Education, is the Program Coordinator. She has been involved in Scouting University for the past two years and is looking forward to presenting a great scouting program to the scouts of 2011. Jenna Maiorella, a junior majoring in Elementary and Special Education, is our Volunteer Coordinator. She enjoys interacting and working with both Girl and Boy Scouts. Derek Schoffstall, a sophmore majoring in Accounting, is the Head Boy Scout Counselor. Jordan Ridge, a senior majoring in International Business, is the Head Girl Scout Counselor. Cassie Savitz, a junior majoring in Occupational Theraphy, is the Public Relations Coordinator and is actively working to present a great opening ceremony.

Scouting University 2011 is going to be a new experience for those returning and for those who have never attended a previous Scouting University. This year, my committee and I are working hard to bring in local scout leaders and experienced college students to teach badges. We hope that the boys and girls in the badge sessions will take more from the event that will help them continue along their paths in scouting. We are hoping to offer new badges along with some very popular badges. This year we look to improve upon last year’s successes and set the standard for even better Scouting Universities to come. My committee and I look forward to seeing you this winter at our SIFE Team’s 8th annual Scouting University.

Sincerely,
Matthew Matyas
