ETOWN USES EARLY OUTBURST TO SUBDUE F&M, 19-10; SHEPPARD, ADAMS DRIVE IN THREE RUNS APIECE IN WIN

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Kiah Sheppard and Joe Adams each went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Elizabethtown jumped out to a big early lead en route to a 19-10 win over Franklin & Marshall in non-league action on Thursday.  With the win, the Blue Jays improved to 11-3.

Tyler Comp (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) and Brad Karli (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) scored runs in each of the first four innings as Etown took an 18-4 lead.  Bryan Pittinger (Westminster, Pa./South Carroll) tossed five innings to earn his third win over the season, allowing five hits and three earned runs while striking out three.

Sal Monoco collected two hits and two RBI for the Diplomats (3-6) while Josh Tartaglione scored a pair of runs.  Clifford Goodband allowed six earned runs and eight walks in 2-1/3 innings to take the loss.

Etown took a 4-0 lead in the first inning thanks to three walks and a crucial throwing error, but the Diplomats used four straight singles to score four times in the second inning and tie the game.  From there, however, the Blue Jays plated the game's next 15 runs and cruised to the win.

Comp and Karli walked to lead off the Etown second inning and scored on a throwing error to put the Blue Jays ahead for good at 6-4.  After Nolan Cassell grounded out, Sheppard doubled home Chris Romig and then scored on a single by Adams that gave Etown an 8-4 cushion.

Sheppard's two-run single to greet reliever Dave Manzo in the third inning highlighted another four-run frame that pushed the Blue Jays lead to 12-4.

In addition to crossing home plate, Comp and Karli each rapped out a pair of hits for Etown, which is currently ranked sixth in the Mid-Atlantic region.  The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday, March 27 at home against Messiah College in a key MAC Commonwealth League doubleheader.  Game time is 1 p.m.
