BLUE JAYS MAINTAIN HOLD ON FIRST PLACE WITH DOUBLEHEADER SWEEP AT SUSQUEHANNA; WEIGLE, AASAN PICK UP PITCHING WINS

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- Scott Weigle (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) won his team-high fifth game of the season and Derik Aasan (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown) struck out seven in a complete game victory to lead Elizabethtown to a sweep of Susquehanna, 5-4 and 5-3, in MAC Commonwealth League action on Monday.  With the wins, the Blue Jays improved to 16-4 overall and 5-1 in the league.

Nolan Cassell (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) and Chris Romig each collected two hits and two RBI in the opener for Etown, which is currently ranked fifth in the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic region.   Brad Karli (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) went 2-for-4 with three RBI in the nightcap and teammate Kiah Sheppard rapped out two hits and scored a run.

Lyle Hosler went 3-for-3 in game two to lead Susquehanna, which fell to 8-7 overall and 2-4 in the MAC Commonwealth League.

In game one, the Blue Jays jumped out to a 5-0 lead and withstood a late Susquehanna rally to win its third straight league game.  Ahead 3-0 in the seventh, Cassell drilled a two-out, two-run single that scored Weigle and Romig to make it 5-0 in favor of Etown.

Susquehanna scored four times in the bottom of the seventh to make it close, but potential tying run Denny Bowers was picked off of first base to end the game.  Weigle allowed four runs on six hits over six-plus innings while striking out five to improve to 5-0 on the season.

In game two, the Blue Jays erased a 1-0 deficit with four runs in the second inning.  Jared Ness and Shawn Price smacked back-to-back RBI singles to give Etown a 2-1 lead.  After Tim Downing drew a walk off of losing pitcher Andy Berwager, Karli plated Price and Downing with a single to increase
the Jays' advantage to 4-1.

Despite seeing his team-best ERA increase to 0.76, Aasan allowed three runs on six hits while fanning seven to run his record to 3-1.

Etown returns to action on Wednesday, April 7 at Ursinus College.  Game time is 3:30 p.m.
