MILO'S HOMER GIVES JOHNS HOPKINS 3-2 WIN OVER ETOWN IN BATTLE OF BLUE JAYS

BALTIMORE, Md. --- Steve Milo led off the sixth inning with a home run to break a 2-all tie and lead Johns Hopkins to a 3-2 win over Elizabethtown in non-league action on Thursday.  With the loss, Etown fell to 18-8.

Brett Gutterman pitched one-hit relief over the final 3-2/3 innings to pick up his first victory of the season and help Johns Hopkins improve to 18-10.  Brad Karli (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) drilled a double for the lone extra base knock among Etown's six hits on the afternoon.  Derik Aasan took the loss despite going the distance and allowing three runs on six hits while fanning six.

Etown jumped out to a 2-0 lead by plating its first two batters of the game.  Chris Turtell led off with a single and moved to third on Karli's two-bagger.  Scott Weigle scored Turtell on an RBI groundout and Kiah Sheppard's two-out single drove in Karli for the Jays' second and final run of the game.

Johns Hopkins answered in their half of the first when J.R. Taylor singled, moved to second on a double by John Christ and scored on a groundout off the bat of Osama Abdelwahab.

The homestanding Blue Jays evened the game at 2-2 in the third frame when Karl Sineath was hit by a pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly from Christ.

Hopkins went ahead for good when Milo led off the sixth inning with his second home run of the season.  Aasan retired the final nine JHU batters, but Etown managed only one hit over the final four innings and couldn't push the tying run across.

Etown returns to action on Saturday, April 24 with a doubleheader at Lebanon Valley College.  Game time is 1 p.m.

at Baltimore, Md.
