ETOWN SWEEPS FOURTH STRAIGHT LEAGUE DOUBLEHEADER WITH 5-0 AND 6-2 WINS OVER LEBANON VALLEYANNVILLE, Pa. --- Bryan Pittinger (Westminster, Md./South Carroll) tossed a three-hit, game-one shutout and Jamie Newton (Vineland, N.J./Vineland) allowed only one hit over five innings in game two to lead Elizabethtown to a doubleheader sweep of Lebanon Valley, 5-0 and 6-2, in MAC Commonwealth League action on Sunday. With the wins, the Blue Jays improved to 20-8 overall and 9-1 in the league.Chris Romig went 3-for-6 with three RBI and a pair of doubles to lead the Etown attack and keep the Blue Jays on top in the Commonwealth League. Nolan Cassell (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) also rapped out a pair of hits in the opener while Chris Turtell and Scott Weigle each went 2-for-4 in the nightcap. Greg Steckbeck went 2-for-3 in the opener for Lebanon Valley (8-17, 3-9 MAC Commonwealth League) and added a double and run scored in game two. Only two Flying Dutchmen runners reached second base in game one, as Pittinger cruised to his fourth win of the season, allowing only three hits and no walks while fanning six. The Blue Jays took advantage of two wild pitches and two Lebanon Valley errors to scored four times in the fifth inning for all the runs they would need. In game two, Newton worked five hitless innings and had a 3-0 lead before surrendering a double to Steckbeck to open the sixth. The Flying Dutchmen pushed across a pair of runs to close within 3-2, but Turtell, Weigle and Jared Ness all knocked in insurance runs in the top of the seventh before Weigle closed it out for his first save of the season. Etown returns to action on Monday, April 26 at home against Mary Washington College. Game time is 3 p.m. The Blue Jays, currently ranked fifth in the Mid-Atlantic region, wrap up their MAC Commonwealth League slate with doubleheaders at Juniata on April 28 and home against Widener on May 1. at Annville, Pa.
