ETOWN SHAKES OFF NINTH-INNING SCRANTON RALLY, DOWNS ROYALS IN TEN INNINGS, 12-11

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Brad Karli (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) singled home Tyler Comp (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) in the bottom of the tenth inning as Elizabethtown squandered a five-run, ninth-inning lead, but recovered to stop Scranton, 12-11, in non-league action on Thursday.  With the win, the Blue Jays improved to 24-8.

Karli, Tim Downing and Nolan Cassell (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) each rapped out three hits to lead Etown's 17-hit attack.  Jim Powell went 2-for-6 with a three-run triple to pace the Royal offense while Joe Borosky and Mike Szalkiewicz also collected two hits apiece for Scranton (7-22).

Trailing 11-6 with two outs in the ninth inning, the Royals rallied to tie the score on a pair of RBI singles by Borosky and Szalkiewicz sandwiched around Powell's three-run triple.

In the tenth, however, Etown answered with the gamewinner when Comp drilled a one-out, pinch-hit single, moved to second on Shawn Price's base knock and scored on a single to center from Karli.

Jared Ness (McPherson, Ks./McPherson) worked the final 3-2/3 innings for Etown to earn his first collegiate victory.

Etown wraps up the 1999 regular season on Saturday, May 1 with an MAC Commonwealth League doubleheader at home against Widener University.  Game time is 1 p.m.  The Blue Jays open the MAC playoffs at home on Wednesday, May 5 at 2:30 p.m.
