ETOWN SWEEPS MORAVIAN, 6-5 AND 5-4

BALTIMORE, Md. --- Elizabethtown improved to 8-7 overall and 3-1 in the Commonwealth Conference with a twinbill sweep of Moravian Saturday. Etown won the first game 6-5 and took the second, 5-4.

Moravian vaulted out to a 5-0 lead by the top of the second inning. The Blue Jays began to chip away at that lead in the bottom of the second, scoring two. By the middle of the seventh and final inning, the score was still 5-2, and then the Blue Jays exploded for four runs as Mark Dixon (Havertown, PA/Delaware County Christian) singled to lead off the inning, and Shawn Price (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) reached base via an error.

Kevin Bonner (Pitman, NJ/Pitman) then grounded out but drove home Dixon to make the score 5-3 with one out. The next batter struck out. Chris Turtell (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) and Jared Ness (York, PA/McPherson, KS) drew walks immediately afterward to load the bases. Kenny Glass (Pittsburgh, PA/North Hills) then walked to drive in Price. Steve Phillips (Hockessin, DE/Tower Hill School) drew Etown's fourth consecutive walk to send home Turtell and tie the game. Brad Duppstadt (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) followed with a single to drive in Ness and win the game.

In the second game, Etown took a 3-0 lead in the second inning and never looked back. The Blue Jays were led at the plate by Ness, who hit two for four with an RBI, and Price, who hit two for three with an RBI.

Etown returns to action on the road Tuesday, March 27 to face Gwynedd-Mercy for a 3:00 p.m. game.
