ETOWN BOWS OUT OF NCAA TOURAMENT WITH 3-2 LOSS TO GWYNEDD-MERCY

BOYERTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown's season came to an end Saturday at the NCAA Division III Mid-Atlantic Regional tournament at Bear Stadium in Boyertown, PA, as the Blue Jays lost 3-2 to Gwynedd-Mercy.

The Blue Jays (19-19) were held to just three hits for the day by Gwynedd-Mercy pitcher Steve Troy (Philadelphia, PA/North Catholic), who threw a complete game while striking out four.

Elizabethtown scored both of its runs in the bottom of the first inning. Tyler Comp (Enola, PA/East Pennsboro) was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Kevin Bonner (Pitman, NJ/Pitman) singled to follow, and Comp scored and Bonner advanced to second on a throwing error by Gwynedd-Mercy right fielder James Martin (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic). A single by Brad Duppstadt (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) drove in Bonner.

Gwynedd-Mercy (32-15) scored a pair of runs in the top of the third inning to tie the game, and took the lead in the top of the fifth when Mike DeLuca (Philadelphia, PA/St. John Neumann) doubled and was driven in on a single by Ed Solvibile (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic).

Etown starting pitcher Ryan Bowe (Quarryville, PA/Solanco) had a strong outing, spreading eight hits over eight innings, striking out five and walking only one. Bryan Pittinger (Wesminster, MD/South Carroll) struck out two Gwynedd-Mercy batters when he took over in the top of the ninth inning.
