Juniata Slips Past Etown, 6-5

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- A series of costly Elizabethtown errors, including two in the top of the ninth inning, helped Juniata slip by the Blue Jays, 6-5, in a nine inning Commonwealth Conference game Friday at Etown's Ira R. Herr Field.

Elizabethtown totaled seven errors over the course of the game, while Juniata committed six. As a result, only five of the 11 runs scored the entire game - three for Juniata and two for Etown - were earned.

Drew Kelley (York, PA/Dallastown) started the game on the mound for the Blue Jays and gave up three earned runs, eight hits and one walk in eight innings. He also struck out nine batters. Jon Weitz (Marlboro, NJ/Marlboro) pitched the ninth inning, allowing no hits and one unearned run while striking out two.

Brad Duppstadt (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) led Etown at the plate, going three-for-five with a double, one run scored and three RBI. Steve Luongo (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) went three-for-three for Etown with a double.

Etown returns to action Saturday, March 29 on the road against Juniata in a noon conference doubleheader.
