Etown Sweeps Lebanon Valley, 2-1 and 4-2, in Key Conference Doubleheader

ANNVILLE, Pa. --- Elizabethtown completed a crucial doubleheader sweep of defending Commonwealth Conference champion and 2002 NCAA Division III tournament participant Lebanon Valley on the road Sunday, taking the first game 2-1 and winning the second game 4-2. The Blue Jays improve to 11-5 overall and 5-3 in the conference with the wins, while Lebanon Valley drops to 9-5 overall and 5-3 in the Commonwealth.

Mike Nocar (Lambertville, NJ/South Hunterton) earned the victory in both of the seven-inning games to improve to 4-0 in 2003. He pitched the final 1-1/3 innings of the first game in relief, allowing no hits and striking out three as Etown scored two runs in the top of the seventh to win the game. He then started the second game and pitched five innings, allowing six hits, three walks and two runs while striking out four.

Drew Kelley (York, PA/Dallastown) started the first game on the mound for Etown and went 5-2/3 innings, allowing just four hits, two walks and one unearned run while striking out one. Jon Chwirut (Rockville, MD/Heights) pitched the final two innings of the second game, striking out two and allowing two hits while holding LVC scoreless, to earn the first save of his collegiate career.

Third baseman Mark Dixon (Havertown, PA/Delaware County Christian) and pinch hitter Eric Guise (Bendersville, PA/Biglerville) scored Etown's runs in the top of the seventh of the first game. Damien Jones (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) drove in Dixon and Jon Kalejta (Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) sent home Guise.

In the second game, Steve Luongo (Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) batted four-for-four with one run scored and two RBI for Etown. Adam Rebert (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) went two-for-three with one RBI.

Etown will return to action at home Monday, April 7 in a non-conference game against York College, set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
