Elizabethtown Wins Commonwealth Conference Opener, 7-2, over Susquehanna; Adam Rebert Spreads Two Runs over Eight Innings for Win

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- Elizabethtown opened up its 2004 Commonwealth Conference schedule with a 7-2 road win in a single nine-inning game over Susquehanna University Wednesday. The Blue Jays, which improve to 6-5 overall with the win, scored seven runs despite being held to just six hits, none of which were for extra bases, and two walks over the course of nine innings by Susquehanna's pitching staff. Susquehanna, which drops to 4-5 overall and 0-1 in the conference with the loss, committed six errors over the course of the game, resulting in only one of Etown's runs being earned.

Junior Blue Jay starting pitcher Adam Rebert (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) spread six base hits, two walks and two runs over the course of eight innings to earn his first win of the season. He also struck out three batters, and while hitting in the number five spot in Etown's batting order, went 1-for-3 with a run and two walks.

Steve Luongo (Palm Coast, FL/Ridge, NJ) batted 2-for-4 with a run scored for Etown, and Brad Duppstadt (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) went 1-for-5 with two runs scored, one steal and one RBI from the top of the order. Mike Nocar (Lambertville, NJ/South Hunderton) pitched the final inning for the Blue Jays, retired three Susquehanna hitters in order, and scored one run and drove in another while on offense.

Etown will return to action on the road Thursday, March 25 against conference rival Juniata College in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader of seven-inning games.
