ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE BASEBALL Etown Pounds Susquehanna 17-2 in Commonwealth Conference Opener ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown hosted Susquehanna University for a nine-inning game in the Blue Jays' 2005 Commonwealth Conference and home opener, and Etown pounded the visiting Crusaders 17-2 to improve to 5-3-1 overall. Susquehanna dropped to 3-5 with the loss. Etown scored all 17 of its runs in the first four innings, scoring four in the first inning, one in the second inning, four in the third inning, and lit up the scoreboard for eight runs in the fourth inning. Susquehanna tallied one run in the fifth inning and one more run in the top of the ninth. Sophomore third baseman Dean Whetham (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) went 4-for-4 with a double, a walk, and one time hit by a pitch at the plate for Etown and scored two runs and drove in two more. Sophomore outfielder Mike Donahue (Hatfield, PA/Lansdale Catholic) went 2-for-4 with one time hit by a pitch at the plate, and he hit a three-run triple, scored two runs, and drove in a total of four. Senior catcher Seth Guida (Reading, PA/Exeter) went 2-for-3 with a walk and one time hit by a pitch, and he drove in one run and scored two more. Senior DH Adam Rebert (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) batted 2-for-3 with two doubles, one RBI and two runs, and sophomore DH Jared Morris (Brielle, NJ/Manasquan) went 2-for-2 with one run. Junior first baseman Bryan Torresani (Horsham, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) was 2-for-6 with one run. Senior center fielder Damien Jones (Mountain Top, PA/Crestwood) went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, two runs scored and two RBI. Senior right fielder Eric Guise (Bendersville, PA/Biglerville) drove in two runs and scored one while going 1-for-5 with a double and a sacrifice fly. On the mound for Etown, senior Steve Luongo (Palm Coast, FL/Ridge, NJ) improved to 2-0 on the season as he started and pitched the first five innings, allowing just four hits, one walk and one unearned run in the process while striking out four. Junior Matt Woehnker (Colts Neck, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) pitched the sixth and seventh innings for Etown, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out none. First-year student Chris Minakowski (Roslyn, PA/Abington) pitched the scoreless eighth inning for Etown, allowing one hit and one walk. Fellow first-year Justin Urban (Downingtown, PA/Coatesville) closed out the game by pitching the ninth inning for the Blue Jays.
