Etown Win Streak Halted at Seven with 10-5 Loss to The College of New Jersey

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown saw its winning streak end at seven games Tuesday in a 10-5 home non-conference loss to The College of New Jersey. TCNJ improves to 13-2 with the loss, while Etown drops to 7-4-1 overall.

The College of New Jersey scored one run in the second inning, four runs in the third, three runs in the fourth, and one run in both the fifth and sixth innings. Etown pitcher Matt Woehnker (Colts Neck, NJ/Christian Brothers Academy) shut out TCNJ in the seventh and eighth innings, and Scott Beard (Willow Grove, PA/La Salle College H.S.) blanked the visiting Lions in the top of the ninth.

Etown scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning as TCNJ committed three errors. Mike Donahue (Hatfield, PA/Lansdale Catholic) reached base on an error and moved to second on another error. Donahue scored when a deep fly ball to left field by Adam Rebert (Gettysburg, PA/Gettysburg) was mishandled, a move that also enabled Rebert to advance to second base. Rebert moved up to third as Seth Guida (Reading, PA/Exeter) grounded out. A ground-out by Eric Guise (Bendersville, PA/Biglerville) drove Rebert home.

Etown added three more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Guida led off with a double and was immediately driven home on a single by Guise, who has now hit safely in eight consecutive games. Dean Whetham (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) followed with another single that sent Guise to third. Steve Luongo (Palm Coast, FL/Ridge, NJ) then doubled, driving home both Guise and Whetham in the process.

Buskett got his first collegiate win on the mound for TCNJ as he pitched five innings without allowing a single earned run. Blake Bullis (Delran, NJ/Delran) went 3-for-5 for TCNJ with a home run, a double, three runs batted in and two runs scored. Andrew Cosgrove (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon) scored three runs for TCNJ while batting 2-for-4.

Donahue was 2-for-5 with one run scored for Etown, and he was the only Blue Jay to get more than one hit in the game. Luongo drove in two runs for Etown while hitting 1-for-3 with a double, and Guise drove in a pair of runs as well and scored a run while batting 1-for-4.

Etown will return to action on the road Friday, March 25 in a nine-inning Commonwealth Conference game against Juniata College at 1:00 p.m.
