Elizabethtown ’s Six-Game Win Streak Ends with 2-0 Loss to York

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College saw its six-game winning streak come to an end Tuesday with a 2-0 home loss to York College (Pa.). Elizabethtown dropped to 6-4 overall with the loss, while York improved to 7-3 with the win. The game was originally to have been held Monday at York, but it was postponed one day and moved to Elizabethtown due to field conditions.

The teams battled to a 0-0 tie through the first six innings, and York broke the stalemate with one run in the top of the seventh when Jeff Young (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) drew a one-out walk and Ryan Craig (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) tripled him home with two outs. York scored one more time in the top of the ninth as Dennis Maxim (Port Jefferson Station, NY/St. Anthony’s) led off with a triple and Young drove him home on a one-out sacrifice fly to deep left field.

Mike Donahue (Hatfield, PA/Lansdale Catholic) batted 2-for-3 with a walk for Elizabethtown, and Ryan White (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) hit 2-for-3 with a sacrifice bunt for the host Blue Jays. In a strong effort, first-year Etown starting pitcher Adam Hartzell (Spring City, PA/Owen J. Roberts) spread eight hits, three walks and one run over seven innings while striking out four en route to getting the loss.

York starting pitcher Jason Christenberry (Yoe, PA/Dallastown) earned the win for York with four hits, two walks, four strikeouts and no runs in seven innings. Tim Frisch (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock) pitched the final inning and a third for York to earn the save, allowing no hits or walks and striking out one.

Elizabethtown will return to action on the road Friday, March 16 in a nine-inning game against Messiah College. It is the Blue Jays’ 2007 Commonwealth Conference opener.
