Blue Jays Sweep Doubleheader From Eastern

FORT PIERCE, Fla. --- The Elizabethtown College baseball team swept a doubleheader from Eastern University on Wednesday, winning the opener 7-3 and claiming the nightcap by a 14-3 score at the Lawnwood Complex.

In game one, Elizabethtown scored six runs in the top of the sixth inning to erase a 3-1 deficit, capped by a three-run home run from junior Tom Semanek (Swoyersville, PA/Bishop Hoban).

Junior Adam Sheibley (Landisburg, PA/West Perry) and sophomore Rodney Francis (Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) each finished 3-for-4 with a run batted in for the Blue Jays, who outhit the Eagles by an 11-7 margin.

Junior Kurt Smith (York, PA/Eastern York) picked up the win for Elizabethtown after allowing six hits and two earned runs in six innings of work while striking out four. Ryan Doran allowed four runs in 1/3 of an inning of relief to take the loss for Eastern.

In game two, the Blue Jays (5-2 overall) spotted the Eagles (0-6 overall) a run in the top of the first inning before tallying eight runs in the bottom of the frame. Elizabethtown added five runs in the fifth to put the game away, and finished the contest with 15 hits off three Eastern pitchers.

Francis went 4-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored for the Blue Jays, while senior Brandon Watson (Philadelphia, PA/Central) went 2-for-2 with three runs batted in and sophomore Brian Kiernan (Garden City, NY/Garden City) finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Sophomore Steve Shuleski (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) nabbed the win for Elizabethtown after yielding five hits and two earned runs in five innings of work with five strikeouts, while Ben Jones surrendered eight runs in 2/3 of an inning to come away with the loss for Eastern.
