Blue Jays Defeated in Doubleheader by Alvernia

FORT PIERCE, Fla. --- The Elizabethtown College baseball team completed its spring break trip to Florida by being swept in a doubleheader by Alvernia College on Thursday morning, losing by scores of 6-3 and 8-0.

In game one, the Crusaders jumped to a 6-0 lead after three innings, and the Blue Jays could only muster three runs in the fifth inning in defeat.

Junior Adam Sheibley (Landisburg, PA/West Perry)went 2-for-4 with a run scored an an RBI for the Blue Jays, while junior Tom Semanek (Swoyersville, PA/Bishop Hoban) finished 2-for-3 and junior Eric Luff (Lincoln University, PA/Avon Grove) went 2-for-2 with run scored.

Sophomore Ryan Barrett (Knox, PA/Keystone) took the loss for the Blue Jays after allowing six earned runs on four hits and four walks in three innings of work.

Chris Stoudt picked up the win for Alvernia after striking out eight in five innings of work, while Dale Curry went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs batted in and Tim Carroll finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.

In game two, the Crusaders (7-3 overall) plated six runs in the second inning and finished with 15 hits overall against the Blue Jays (5-4 overall), as Stoudt went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in and Tim Alquist finished 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI.

Junior Sam Heaps (Landenberg, PA/Avon Grove) took the loss for the Blue Jays as he yielded six runs on nine hits in three innings of work. Shane Zellers scattered three hits over five scoreless innings to pick up the win for the Crusaders.
