Blue Jays Lead By Four Shots After Day One of Commonwealth Conference Golf Championships
HERSHEY, Pa. --- The Elizabethtown College men's golf team holds the lead after day one of the Commonwealth Conference Golf Championships at the Hershey Country Club East Course, shooting 316 as a team on Saturday to lead Messiah College by four shots.
Individually, senior Hunter Gross (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) led the Blue Jays with a round of 75 on Saturday, placing him in second place in the individual standings behind Albright College's Mike Heller, who fired a three-over-par 74.
Junior Mike Wagner (Allentown, PA/William Allen) is tied for third place at 76 with Ben Horst of Messiah, and first-year student Geoff Quinque (Green Lane, PA/Upper Perkiomen) is in sixth place after shooting an 80.
Sophomore Kurt Amen (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) carded an 85 and is in 15th place after day one, and first-year student Dan Senkler (Orlando, FL/Sanford School) rounded out the Blue Jay scoring with an 88 to stand in a tie for 20th.
The Blue Jays, who finished last at the conference meet one year ago, lead Messiah by four shots, with Albright (326) 10 strokes back. The team champion will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Golf Championships at the Chateau Elan Resort in Braselton, Georgia, to be held May 13-16.Commonwealth Conference Championship
