ETOWN DROPS 3-2 OVERTIME DECISION TO SHIPPENSBURG IN '98 OPENER

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Meredith Henry scored a hat trick, including the sudden death gamewinner, to lead Shippensburg past Elizabethtown, 3-2, in the Blue Jays' 1998 season opener on Saturday.

Denise Heller and Beth Purcell scored goals to stake Etown (0-1) to leads of 1-0 and 2-1, but Henry answered each time and capped her standout performance by finding the net with 13:57 remaining in the second overtime period.  Erin Wyda picked up the assist on the game's final goal.

Mandy Riley made eight saves in the cage for Etown.  The goal by Purcell was the first of her collegiate career, assisted by 1997 scoring leader Mandi Ewing.
