BLUE JAYS BLANK WESTERN MARYLAND
ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Etown field hockey improved its record to 2-0 after gaining a decisive 5-0 victory over Western Maryland Thursday in its home opener. The Blue Jays dominated play, out-shooting their opponents 26-4. Beth Purcell (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) scored Etown's first point with 23:18 remaining in the first half. Following a goal by Liz White (Elizabethtown, PA/Mt. Calvary), the score was 2-0 at halftime. Mandi Ewing (McClure, PA/West Snyder) opened the scoring in the second half with a goal at 29:28 remaining. Purcell then added her second goal of the day, and Ewing finished the scoring with her second goal of the game. The Blue Jays' next game is at Messiah Tuesday, September 14.
