ETOWN FALLS TO SUSQUEHANNA IN MAC COMMONWEALTH OPENER, 5-1

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown lost its Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth Conference opener Saturday to Susquehanna, 5-1.

The Blue Jays (2-1 overall, 0-1 MAC Commonwealth) managed only six shots in the game, while Susquehanna (2-0 overall, 1-0 MAC Commonwealth) fired off 24.

Despite being heavily outshot, Elizabethtown managed to keep the score close in the first half, allowing only one goal to the Crusaders.  Blue Jay goaltender Kate VanValkenburgh (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) made 15 saves.

Elizabethtown's only goal was scored in the final ten minutes by Mandi Ewing (McClure, PA/West Snyder) and was assisted by Mindy Nace (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata).  Susquehanna freshman Katie McKeever scored a hat trick.

The Blue Jays return to action on the road against Messiah Tuesday, September 14.  Game time is 3:30 p.m.
