ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY
RANDOLPH-MACON SQUEAKS PAST BLUE JAYS, 3-2 BRIDGEWATER, Va. --- Although Virginia advertises itself as the state for lovers, Elizabethtown did not fall in love with it Friday afternoon, as the field hockey team lost to Randolph-Macon, 3-2, in the first of two games to be played at Bridgewater, VA this weekend. The Blue Jays (2-3) fell behind early and closed out the first half losing 2-0. Mandi Ewing (McClure, PA/West Snyder) scored a goal four minutes into the second half to close the gap to one. Randolph-Macon (4-0) answered with a goal of its own seven minutes later, taking a 3-1 lead. With eight minutes left to play, the Blue Jays again knocked at Randolph-Macon's door with a goal by Beth Purcell (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor), assisted by Stacy Peters (Millville, PA/Central Columbia). However, the Blue Jays could not get anything else past Randolph-Macon's freshman goaltender Jessica Brits, who made 14 saves. Etown's Virginia road trip concludes against Bridgewater Saturday. Game time is noon. at Bridgewater, Va.
