WESTMINSTER, Md. --- Elizabethtown defeated Western Maryland, 3-1, on the road Wednesday. It was the Blue Jays' fourth consecutive victory as Etown's record improved to 5-1 overall and head coach Yvonne Kauffman moved within seven wins of the 1,000 mark for her collegiate coaching career.
Etown scored its first goal when Brandy Espenshade (Grantville, PA/Lower Dauphin) found the net with 15:19 remaining in the first half. Beth Purcell (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) put Etown ahead 2-0 with a goal on an assist from Mindy Nace (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata) with 11:34 remaining in the half.
Western Maryland (4-3) scored its only goal with 13:36 remaining in the game; it was scored by Sara Thomas on an assist from Sarah Folger. The Blue Jays struck back with an insurance goal from Nace with 8:12 remaining.
Etown returns to action at home against Scranton Saturday, September 23 at 11:30 a.m.
