ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown improved to 10-2 overall and 3-2 in the Commonwealth Conference with a 4-1 home win over Moravian (3-9, 0-5) Wednesday. The win was the 998th of Etown head coach Yvonne Kauffman's collegiate coaching career.
Beth Purcell (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) scored Etown's first goal with 20:23 remaining in the half on an assist from M.E. Regan (Andover, NJ/Newton). Moravian tied the score at 14:14 left in the half when Melissa Gerstel (Warminster, PA/William Tennent) scored on an assist by Chelsea Roberts (Philadelphia, PA/St. Basil Academy).
The Blue Jays took a 2-1 lead into halftime when Purcell scored again on an assist from Pam Pike (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) with 37 seconds remaining in the first half.
Etown took a 3-1 lead 15:24 into the second period when Brandy Espenshade (Grantville, PA/Lower Dauphin) scored on an assist from Mindy Nace (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata). Espenshade scored again with 9:57 remaining in the game on an assist from Mandi Ewing (McClure, PA/West Snyder).
Elizabethtown returns to action at home Saturday, October 7 for Homecoming against Dickinson. Game time is 11:00 a.m.
If Elizabethtown wins that game, Kauffman could reach her 1,000th career victory as early as October 10, when Elizabethtown is scheduled to play York at home at 3:45 p.m.
