ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown fell to Shippensburg University, ranked seventh in the nation in NCAA Division II, 5-1 Thursday. With the loss, the Blue Jays, ranked 16th in the nation in Division III, fall to 12-2 overall, while Shippensburg improves to 10-3-1.
Shippensburg got on the scoreboard early with a goal by Sarah Paine (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) with 28:46 remaining in the first period. Elizabethtown's Brandy Espenshade (Grantville, PA/Lower Dauphin) tied the score at 1-1 on an assist from Mandi Ewing (McClure, PA/West Snyder) with 15:50 left in the first half.
Shippensburg took the lead to stay when Meredith Henry (Oxford, PA/Oxford) scored a pair of goals early in the second half. A pair of goals on penalty strokes by Paine and Carli Bordner (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) later in the half put the game away for the Raiders.
Elizabethtown returns to action on the road against Commonwealth Conference rival Juniata Saturday, October 14. Game time is 12:00 p.m.
