ETOWN DEFEATS ALBRIGHT, 4-0, TO FINISH 5-2 IN COMMONWEALTH REGULAR SEASON

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown, ranked 12th in the nation, defeated Commonwealth Conference rival Albright 4-0 at home Wednesday. With the win, Etown improves to 14-3 overall and finishes the conference regular season with a 5-2 mark. The Blue Jays must now wait for the outcomes of a few other conference games to see exactly where they fit into the Commonwealth playoff picture.

Etown took a 1-0 lead over Albright (7-8, 2-5) into halftime on an unassisted goal by Marthe Vehmeijer (Rotterdam, The Netherlands) with 16:57 remaining in the first half. Mandi Ewing (McClure, PA/West Snyder) made the score 2-0 on a penalty stroke with 16:00 remaining in the game. Vehmeijer followed with her second goal of the game less than two minutes later on an assist from Brandy Espenshade (Grantville, PA/Lower Dauphin). Espenshade then added the game's final goal on an assist from Emily Pitzer (Biglerville, PA/Biglerville) with 8:45 left.

Etown goaltender Kate VanValkenburgh (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) needed to make only four saves to earn her ninth shutout of the season. Albright keeper Alison Anders made 37 saves for the Lions, as the Blue Jays out-shot Albright 41-4.

Etown returns to action at home against Delaware Valley in a non-conference game Thursday, October 19. It is Etown's last home game of the regular season, and game time is 4:00 p.m.
