ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY Etown Scrapes Past Wilkes, 2-1, on Penalty Strokes, Concludes Regular Season 10-8 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown closed out its regular season with a heart-stopping 2-1 penalty stroke win over Wilkes at home Saturday. The Blue Jays wrap up the regular season with a 10-8 record, while Wilkes falls to 10-8 with the loss. A goal by Erin Duffy (Media, PA/Penncrest) off an assist from Kate Gwilliam (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) with 12:32 left in the first half gave Elizabethtown a 1-0 lead. Wilkes' Jill Henry (Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) scored with 25:18 left in the second half to send the game into overtime. After two overtime periods, the score remained locked at 1-1. Moving into penalty strokes, Sam Stever (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) and Mindy Nace (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata) hit their first-round strokes for Etown, while only Kristin Yarrish (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale) was the only Wilkes player to hit the back of the net in the strokes. Etown goaltender Kate VanValkenburgh (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) made seven saves in the game and stopped four penalty strokes in the winning effort. Etown returns to action Wednesday, October 24 in the first round of the Commonwealth Conference playoffs. The Blue Jays will play Lebanon Valley at LVC. Game time is 2:30 p.m. At Elizabethtown, Pa.
