ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY Etown Falls to Messiah, 2-1, in Double Overtime in Commonwealth Conference Championship Game GRANTHAM, Pa. --- Elizabethtown wrapped up its 2001 season with a 11-9 overall record and a finish as the Commonwealth Conference runner-up following a 2-1 double overtime loss to host Messiah in the conference championship game Saturday. Messiah, ranked fifth in the nation, scored first with 19:20 left in the first stanza when Danae Chambers scored on an assist from Kelly Stanwell. Etown tied up the game with 11:10 left in the game when Mindy Nace (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata) scored off an assist from Pam Pike (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen). Messiah (14-4) outshot the Blue Jays 10-0 in the second half, but Etown goaltender Kate VanValkenburgh (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) made four second half saves and nine saves over the course of the game to keep the Blue Jays alive. Messiah won the game in the 97th minute when Allison Harris scored off an assist from Chambers.
