Etown Edges Scranton, 2-1, to Improve to 4-2

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown improved to 4-2 overall in 2002 with a 2-1 win over Scranton at home Tuesday.

Etown and Scranton (2-5) were locked in a 0-0 tie through the game's first 50 minutes, until the Blue Jays scored with 20 minutes left in the second half. Brandy Espenshade (Grantville, PA/Lower Dauphin) broke the stalemate with an unassisted goal.

Just under two minutes later, Scranton sent the game back into a deadlock with an unassisted goal by Meghan Blair (Lake Peekskill, NY/Walter Panas). Lisa Zbyszinski (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) scored the game-winning goal for Elizabethtown with 12:02 remaining in the second half off an assist from Mindy Nace (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata).

Elizabethtown out-shot Scranton 9-6, and the Blue Jays had seven penalty corners against none for the Royals. Defensively, Etown goaltender Lisa Marquette (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) and Scranton keeper Kim Reynolds (Larchmont, NY/Mamaroneck) each had three saves. Etown defender Jama Weigher (Enola, PA/Cumberland Valley) had a pair of defensive saves.

Elizabethtown will return to action on the road Saturday, September 28 on the road against Goucher for a 1:00 p.m. game.
