ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY 17th-Ranked Elizabethtown Defeats Widener, 4-1, to Improve to 4-0 in Conference ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown, currently ranked 17th in the nation in NCAA Division III, improved to 9-2 overall and 4-0 in the Commonwealth Conference with a 4-1 win over Widener at home Thursday. The game was originally supposed to be played yesterday but was postponed due to rain. Widener drops to 6-6 overall and 1-3 in the conference with the loss. Brandy Espenshade (Grantville, PA/Lower Dauphin) scored a pair of goals, including the eventual game-winner, for the Blue Jays. She now has scored six goals in her last three games played. Kelly Miller (Robesonia, PA/Conrad Weiser) scored the first goal of the game for Etown with 17:21 remaining off an assist from Lauren Potosky (Wrightsville, PA/Eastern York), and Espenshade's first goal off an assist from Mindy Nace (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata) at 16:23 left in the first half gave Etown a 2-0 lead going into halftime. Jama Weigher (Enola PA/Cumberland Valley) scored off an assist from Heather Morgan (Wilmington, DE/St. Elizabeth) with 13:12 left in the second half to give the Blue Jays a 3-0 advantage. Widener struck back with 11:21 left in the game when Christina Blanco (Southampton, NY/Southampton) netted a Shannon Phelps (Thorofare, NJ/West Deptford) pass. Elizabethtown out-shot Widener 25-23, and Etown goaltender Lisa Marquette (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) made 18 saves. Widener keeper Lisa Mohrmann (Atco, NJ/Edgewood Regional) made 15 saves. Elizabethtown will return to action on the road against 12th-ranked Commonwealth Conference rival Susquehanna, one of four teams in the conference that are currently nationally ranked, Tuesday, October 22 at 4:00 p.m. At Elizabethtown, Pa.
