ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY Espenshade Notches Hat Trick at 19th Ranked Elizabethtown Blows Out Moravian, 8-1 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- 19th-ranked Elizabethtown played its final regular season home game of 2002 in hard rain mixed with sleet, but won in grand style with an 8-1 blowout of Commonwealth Conference rival Moravian. The Blue Jays improve to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in the conference with the win. Brandy Espenshade (Grantville, PA/Lower Dauphin) picked up a hat trick for the Blue Jays, scoring two first half goals and one second half goal. Mindy Nace (Thompsontown, PA/East Juniata) started the Blue Jays off with a goal at 31:04, and assisted a pair of first half goals. Espenshade and Lisa Zbyszinski (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) scored Etown's second and third goals. Espenshade (Grantville, PA/Lower Dauphin) scored again to give Etown a 4-0 lead at 5:48 off an assist from Nace. Moravian scored shortly thereafter to narrow Etown's lead to 4-1, but the Blue Jays ultimately took a 5-1 lead into halftime following another goal by Zbyszinski 3:58 before halftime. Jama Weigher (Enola, PA/Cumberland Valley) assisted Espenshade's first goal. Etown piled on three more goals in the second half, as Kate Gwilliam (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown), Espenshade, and Christina DiLiello (Jarrettsville, MD/North Harford) all scored goals. The final goal of the game, assisted by Gwilliam, was the first of DiLiello's collegiate career. Etown out-shot Moravian 37-6. At this point, the Blue Jays have clinched a berth in the Commonwealth Conference playoffs for the third consecutive year. The conference playoffs will begin Wednesday, October 6.
