Etown Runs Winning Streak to Three with 2-1 Comeback Win over Juniata, Slessinger Scores Both Etown Goals

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown pulled an exciting 2-1 come-from-behind win out of the final four minutes of Thursday's home game against Commonwealth Conference rival Juniata to run its current winning streak to three games. The Blue Jays improve to 4-9 overall and 2-2 in the conference with the win, while Juniata drops to 8-5 overall and 2-2 in the Commonwealth.

Juniata carried a 1-0 lead into halftime after Jean Silvey (Airville, PA/Red Lion) scored at 16:10 off an assist from Dana Groff (Quarryville, PA/Solanco). Juniata continued to hold its 1-0 lead with just four minutes left to play. With 3:26 left, Melanie Slessinger (Westminster, MD/North Carroll) scored her second goal of the season off an assist by Kelly Miller (Robesonia, PA/Conrad Weiser) to tie the game at 1-1.

Slessinger struck again with 2:04 remaining in the game, this time getting an assist from Kate Gwilliam (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown), to give the Blue Jays their first lead of the game, 2-1. Etown held on to its lead during the final two minutes to win.

Elizabethtown goaltender Lisa Marquette (Lebanon, PA/Cedar Crest) made 11 saves, including eight in the second half, to keep the Blue Jays in the game. Heather Morgan (Wilmington, DE/St. Elizabeth) and Kim Fleager (Lititz, PA/Warwick) each had a defensive save for Etown as well. Etown actually out-shot Juniata 15-12, and the Blue Jays held a 12-7 advantage in penalty corners as well.

Etown will return to action on the road Saturday, October 11 against Mary Washington in a 1:00 p.m. non-conference game.
