Etown Defeats Delaware Valley 7-0, Does Not Allow a Shot

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- After struggling offensively for much of the season, Etown's offense erupted for seven goals as the Blue Jays defeated Delaware Valley 7-0. Etown nearly doubled its season goal total to 15 over the course of the game. The Elizabethtown defense proved stifling as well, as the Blue Jays did not surrender a single shot the entire game. Etown improves to 3-10 overall and gets its second consecutive win with the victory, while Delaware Valley drops to 4-7 overall.

Sophomore Brandy Spriggle (Beaver Springs, PA/West Snyder) scored the first goal of the game, as well as the first goal of her collegiate career, unassisted 14:25 after the start. It turned out to be the game-winner as well. Etown took a 3-0 lead into halftime as Melanie Slessinger (Westminster, MD/North Carroll) twice scored off assists by Kelly Miller (Robesonia, PA/Conrad Weiser) at 22:50 and 34:55, respectively.

Etown scored again just 1:10 into the second half when Laura Rinck (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) scored off Miller's third assist of the game. Rinck scored again, this time on a penalty stroke, at 49:52 to give the Blue Jays a 5-0 lead. At 52:18, sophomore Valerie Bawell (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot) scored her first goal as a Blue Jay off a Jenna Mastromarino (Sinking Spring, PA/Holy Name) assist. First-year Hannah Moody (Lewisberry, PA/Northern) scored the final goal of the game, as well as the first goal of her career, at 66:42.

Etown will return to action on the road Wednesday, October 6 against Commonwealth Conference rival Juniata College at 4:00 p.m.
