ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY Mary Washington Edges Elizabethtown 3-2 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The University of Mary Washington scraped past Elizabethtown College with a 3-2 victory clinched with a goal with just 16 seconds remaining in the game at Etown Tuesday. Mary Washington improves to 12-3 overall with the win, while Etown drops to 4-14 with the loss. The Blue Jays got on the scoreboard first when Whitney Brown (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) scored for Etown with 22:40 left in the first half. Mary Washington tied the score at 1-1 when Brynn Maguire scored off assists by Maureen McGee and Amanda Mulhern on a penalty corner with 18:36 left in the first half, and the score remained tied 1-1 at halftime. Mary Washington went ahead 2-1 just 26 seconds into the second half as Jena Elliott scored off a Meghan Punaro assist. A Laura Rinck (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) goal, assisted by Brown, with 9:53 left to play in the second half tied the score at 2-2. Mary Washington's game winning goal came with 16 seconds left in the second half courtesy of Maguire. Mary Washington held a 9-7 advantage in shots over the course of the game, while Etown held an 11-6 advantage in penalty corners. Elizabethtown will return to action on the road Saturday, October 23 against Moravian College in a 1:00 p.m. Commonwealth Conference game.
