ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY Elizabethtown Goes to 2-0 in 2005 with 2-0 Win over Roanoke ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- Thanks to a 2-0 victory over Roanoke College Saturday in the final day of the Muhlenberg College Mule Classic, the Elizabethtown College field hockey team has won its first two games of the season for the first time since 2002. Etown scored its first goal at 32:26 in the first half when Laura Rinck ( Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) hammered a shot from the top of the circle off a corner by Mel Slessinger ( Westminster, MD/North Carroll). It was already Rinck’s third goal of the season. Etown’s second goal, which came at 29:15 in the second half, came in similar fashion, except this time Rinck got the assist when her blast from the top of the circle off a corner was tipped in by Val Bawell (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot). Etown out-shot Roanoke 21-4 in the game and held a 9-2 advantage in penalty corners. Blue Jay goalie Kristen Callaghan ( Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) made three saves for her first shutout of the season. Etown will return to action at home Wednesday, September 7 when it hosts Lancaster County rival Franklin & Marshall in a 4:30 p.m. non-confernece game. Elizabethtown Coll.
