Franklin & Marshall Defeats Etown 5-2 in Blue Jays’ Home Opener

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown dropped to 2-1 overall in 2005 with a 5-2 home opener loss to local rival Franklin & Marshall College Wednesday. F&M improved to 3-0 overall with the win.

F&M jumped out to a 1-0 lead 1:21 into the game when Eileen Keever scored off a Brenna Dolphin assist. The Blue Jays tied the game 1-1 at 3:35 when a Kelsey Diehl (North East, MD/Rising Sun) pass found Mel Slessinger (Westminster, MD/North Carroll) wide open in front of the F&M net, and Slessinger scored her second goal of the season.

By halftime, F&M held a 3-1 lead as Allison Barthold scored off a Keever assist and Lindsay Solar scored unassisted. F&M led 5-1 going into the game’s final minute thanks to goals by Lindsey Mummert and Jessica Senior.

With 32 seconds left on the clock, Etown made the score 5-2 as first-year student Diehl scored her first collegiate goal on a Laura Rinck ( Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) assist.

Etown will return to action at home Saturday, September 10 against McDaniel College in a 1:00 p.m. game.
