ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY Etown Eclipses 2004 Win Total with 3-1 Victory over Moravian ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Seven games into its 2005 season, Elizabethtown has surpassed its 2004 win total. The Blue Jays improved to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the Commonwealth Conference Saturday with a 3-1 home win over Moravian College (2-4 overall, 1-1 conference). Etown scored all three of its goals in the first half. Val Bawell (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot) gave Etown a 1-0 lead 7:36 into the game. Mel Slessinger (Westminster, MD/North Carroll) scored the next two goals for Etown, striking off a Laura Rinck (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove Area) assist at 14:36 and off a Kelsey Diehl (North East, MD/Rising Sun) assist at 19:56. Moravian’s lone goal came at 44:40 when Nicole Maugle (Quakertown, PA/Quakertown) scored. Etown goaltender Kristen Callaghan (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) made six saves in the Blue Jay net, and Rinck made one defensive save. Moravian keeper Amanda Gaun (Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) made eight saves. Etown will return to action at home Tuesday, September 20 against Wilkes University in a 4:30 p.m. non-conference game.
