Elizabethtown Defeats Misericordia 3-0 in Season Opener at Muhlenberg
ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- Elizabethtown College won its 2006 season opener Friday afternoon 3-0 over College Misericordia on the first day of the Muhlenberg College Mule Classic. The Blue Jays dominated the game, out-shooting Misericordia 25-0 over the course of the game and 17-0 in the first half alone. Etown also held a 9-0 edge in penalty corners in the game.

Despite 17 shots in the first half, Elizabethtown did not score its first goal of the game until 26:02, when Megan Angstadt (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) tipped in a cross pass in front of the net from Meg Policicchio (Topton, PA/Brandywine Heights). The score remained 1-0 at halftime.
Elizabethtown went up 2-0 at 44:55 when Laura Rinck (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove Area) scored off a Tiffany Vogel (Annville, PA/Palmyra) assist. The Blue Jays’ final goal came at 52:52 Jen Pechart (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) tipped in a cross pass from Alison Duval (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley).
Rinck finished the game leading Elizabethtown in shots with six, and Whitney Brown (Manheim, PA/Manheim Central) led the team in shots on goal with five. Goaltender Ellen Howanitz made 11 saves to keep Misericordia in the game.
Etown goalie Kristen Callaghan (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) did not need to make any saves en route to her first shutout of the season, as the Elizabethtown backfield, anchored by starting defenders Hannah Moody (Lewisberry, PA/Northern), Jenna Mastromarino (Sinking Spring, PA/Holy Name) and Andrea Marsala (Dallastown, PA/Dallastown) did not allow a single Misericordia shot.
The Blue Jays will return to action against host Muhlenberg Saturday at 1:00 p.m. on the final day of the Mule Classic.
