Nationally 15th-Ranked Elizabethtown Improves to 5-0 with 6-1 Blowout of DeSales ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Nationally 15th-ranked Elizabethtown College won its 2006 home opener and improved to 5-0 overall in grand fashion Wednsday, defeating visiting DeSales University 6-1. The Blue Jays out-shot DeSales 16-5 over the course of the game and held a 9-3 advantage in penalty corners. DeSales dropped to 3-2 on the season with the loss.
Andrea Miles (Phoenix, MD/Notre Dame Prep.) led the Blue Jay offense with two goals, one assist and five points on the day. Brandy Spriggle (Beaver Springs, PA/West Snyder), Jen Pechart (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) and Brenna Noon (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) each scored one goal and had one assist for Elizabethtown. Laura Rinck (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) scored one goal for the Blue Jays, and Megan Angstadt (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) and Kelsey Diehl (North East, MD/Rising Sun) each tallied one assist. Etown carried a 1-0 lead into halftime on Spriggle’s goal, assisted by Angstadt on a penalty corner 8:54 into the game. The Blue Jays would not score again until early in the second half, at which point Etown let loose a barrage of goals. Rinck struck 2:57 into the second half on a Spriggle assist during another penalty corner. At 4:40 into the secondl half, Noon scored on Pechart’s assist, and Pechart followed with her goal on Miles’ assist just 2:58 later to give the Blue Jays a 4-0 lead.
With 13:02 left in the game, Miles scored her first goal of the game off Noon’s assist to give Etown a 5-0 lead, and Miles struck again with 11:05 left off Diehl’s assist to put the Blue Jays up 6-0. DeSales scored its lone goal with just 1:22 remaining in the game, as Jen Pulcini (Easton, PA/Easton) scored off an assist by Bethany Hepner (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh). Kristen Callaghan (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) made four saves in the Elizabethtown goal, while Molly Pope (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach) made seven saves for DeSales. Elizabethtown will return to action on the road Tuesday, September 19 at Wilkes University in a 4:30 p.m. game. DeSales University (3-2) vs. Elizabethtown Coll.
