Elizabethtown Pounds Swarthmore 4-0

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Nationally 13th-ranked Elizabethtown College defeated Swarthmore College 4-0 at home Thursday afternoon as the Blue Jays improved to 6-1 overall in 2006. Swarthmore dropped to 5-2 with the loss.

Meg Policicchio '07 led Etown in goals with two.

Elizabethtown out-shot Swarthmore 20-4 over the course of the game and held a 13-5 advantage in penalty corners. The Blue Jays scored their lone first half goal at 16:47, when Laura Rinck (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove Area) scored from the top of the circle on a penalty corner. Megan Angstadt (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) had the assist.

The Blue Jays scored again at 42:23 as Meg Policicchio (Topton, PA/ Brandywine Heights) netted the ball during a pileup in front of the Swarthmore net. Policicchio scored again off a Val Bawell (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot) assist at 52:53 on another scrum in front of the net. The final goal came at 56:49 when Andrea Miles (Phoenix, MD/Notre Dame Preparatory) scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season off assists by Bawell and Brandy Spriggle (Beaver Springs, PA/West Snyder) following a penalty corner.

Val Bawell '07 had two assists against Swarthmore.

Etown goaltender Kristen Callaghan (Langhorne, PA/Neshaminy) made three saves to preserve the shutout. Swarthmore goalie Melissa LaVan (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) made 11 saves.

Etown will return to action Saturday, September 23 on the road against Commonwealth Conference rival Albright College in a 1:00 p.m. game.
