ELIZABETHTOWN COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY View pictures from the game here (by Jim Rinck) Nationally 15th-Ranked Elizabethtown Defeats Widener 2-1 ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The nationally fifteenth-ranked Elizabethtown College field hockey team improved to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the Commonwealth Conference with a 2-1 comeback home win over Widener University Saturday. Widener drops to 5-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference with the loss.
All three of the game’s goals were scored during penalty corners. Widener took a 1-0 lead at 27:25 as Arlene Lowthert scored for the Pioneers. Widener held onto its lead until just under 14 minutes left in the game, when Megan Angstadt (Oley, PA/Oley Valley) scored off a Brenna Noon (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) assist at 56:10 to tie the game at 1-1. With exactly four minutes left in regulation time, Val Bawell (New Holland, PA/Garden Spot) scored her first goal of the season, as well as the game-winner, on a Brandy Spriggle (Beaver Springs, PA/West Snyder) assist. Elizabethtown out-shot Widener 26-6 over the course of the game and 13-1 in the second half. The Blue Jays also held a 17-4 edge in penalty corners during the game. Widener University goaltender Kate Heritage made 16 saves. Elizabethtown will return to action on the road Wednesday, October 4 at King’s College (Pa.) in a 4:00 p.m non-conference game. at Elizabethtown, Pa.
