Juniata Downs Elizabethtown 4-1 In Matchup of Nationally-Ranked Field Hockey Teams

HUNTINGDON, Pa. --- Leslie Stern scored a pair of first-half goals and added an assist as Juniata College overcame an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Elizabethtown College 4-1 in non-conference field hockey action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Eagles (4-1 overall), ranked 19th in this week's National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Coaches Poll, also received goals from Michelle Campbell and Paula Price in the victory over the 20th-ranked Blue Jays (2-3 overall).

Sophomore Brenna Noon (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) scored the lone goal of the match for Elizabethtown just 42 seconds into the contest off an assist by junior Andrea Miles (Phoenix, MD/Notre Dame Prep), giving the Blue Jays an early 1-0 lead.

Stern scored her first goal of the day with 20:20 left in the first half off an assist by Kim Wagner, and Campbell tallied an unassisted goal to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead with 11:15 left in the half.

Stern tallied her second of the day off another Wagner assist to push the Juniata advantage to 3-1 with 4:09 left in the first half, and Price capped the scoring early in the second half off an assist by Stern.

Despite the score, Elizabethtown held the statistical edge in the contest with a 16-12 advantage in shots and a 17-6 lead in penalty corners.

Sophomore Liz Hannegan (Lancaster, PA/McCaskey) finished with one save in goal for Elizabethtown, while Abby Funk made six saves in the first 58 minutes for Juniata before yielding to Denalyn Spratt, who tallied three saves.
