Elizabethtown Wins Fifth Straight With 2-1 Overtime Victory over King's

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- First-year student Liz DeMatteis (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) scored midway through the first overtime period to give Elizabethtown College a 2-1 victory over King's College in non-conference field hockey action at Wolf Field on Wednesday afternoon.

The goal by DeMatteis, her fourth of the season, came with 6:16 left in the first overtime period as she batted home a pass by sophomore Brenna Noon (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) to give the Blue Jays (7-3 overall) their fifth consecutive victory.

King's (5-3 overall), which dropped its third straight after winning its first five matches of the year, had tied the game just 1:12 into the second half as Megan Farrell scored off an assist by Grace King.

The Blue Jays had taken a 1-0 lead with 14:40 left in the first half as junior Alison Duval (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cumberland Valley) scored her second goal of the season as she took a long shot off a corner by junior Megan Angstadt (Oley, PA/Oley Valley).

Elizabethtown finished with a 19-6 edge in shots over the Lady Monarchs, including a 15-3 advantage in the first half, and took 16 penalty corners to three by King's.

Sophomore Liz Hannegan (Lancaster, PA/McCaskey) turned aside four shots in goal for the Blue Jays while Kari Leach made 12 stops for King's.
