Blue Jays Open Conference Schedule With 2-1 Overtime Victory at Widener
CHESTER, Pa. --- Sophomore Brenna Noon (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) scored 4:52 into overtime to give Elizabethtown College a 2-1 victory over host Widener University in Commonwealth Conference field hockey action on Saturday afternoon.
The goal by Noon, her team-high eighth of the season, gave the Blue Jays (10-5 overall, 1-0 Commonwealth) the victory in their Commonwealth Conference opener while the Pride (10-3 overall, 0-1 Commonwealth) dropped their second straight contest.
Elizabethtown took a 1-0 lead with 14:28 left in the first half as first-year student Liz DeMatteis (Newark, DE/St. Mark's) scored her sixth goal of the season, but Widener tied the contest with 17:29 remaining in the second half as Jackie Elliott scored off an assist by Jaime Carr.
The Blue Jays finished with a 14-9 edge in shots and an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners over the Pride.
First-year student Laura Ressler (Media, PA/Delaware County Christian) picked up the win after making eight saves in goal for Elizabethtown, while Megan Purcell finished with 11 stops for Widener.
